The Alliance is a remarkable resource for connecting to and learning from other booksellers, publishers and authors, and for staying on top of the industry at large while maintaining a particular focus on aspects most crucial to independent bookselling throughout California. Open to independent businesses that sell primarily books in the physical world and create community through bookselling. Traditional bookstores, pop-up bookstores, mobile bookstores, and other non-traditional bookselling that's primarily conducted in the physical world qualify for membership. (Don't have a brick and mortar location just yet? We would love to welcome you as a Provisional Bookstore Member). Memberships are updated annually.

CALIBA's top priority is to serve our bookstore members. If we determine that an individual or organization's actions do not align with the best interests of our members, the Board of Directors reserves the right to refuse or terminate their membership.
