Why We Do the Winter Catalog - A Letter from Executive Director, Hannah
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
If you’re anything like me, you can’t believe it is already the first week of June. Time has flown by as we gathered during our Spring Forums and prepared for the coming Summer and Fall months. Those of you who attended our Spring Forums might have attended our Catalog Session in which Claire Bone, owner of Wild Sisters Books & Co., and I presented on the importance of the Catalogs – not just for your stores, but for CALIBA as a whole. We talked about the key reasons to participate and brainstormed ways stores can use this tool to their advantage. The CALIBA staff has been sharing these tips and tricks with you via our newsletters and e-blasts since the Summer Catalog orders opened. Read full blog post.
How to make the most of your Winter catalog:
- Use our direct/saturation mail option for your winter catalog.
- Imprint your winter catalog with your store info AND a coupon.
- Insert in local papers.
- Mail to customers.
- Prepare to hand-sell by reading the DRCs provided on the Edelweiss list.
- Place in other retail outlets, coffee/tea shops, or market vendors – see if you can arrange a partnership (i.e. your catalogs in exchange for placing their flyers or business cards in your store).
- Keep them by the door, cash register, and add them to bags. (from Flo @ Linden Tree)
-
Pre-pack catalogs in bags, hand out at your events (add to chairs beforehand) and other community events.
-
Drop off catalogs at a school and see if they can be added to teachers' mailboxes.
-
Bring it to local independent living communities and take orders (from Claire @ Wild Sisters Book Co.)
-
Bring to an apartment complex for Leasing Office to use in a welcome package for new tenants. (from Amy @ Banter Bookshop)
-
Have staffers choose a title they think will do well and have a competition to see which title sells the most copies. And the winning bookseller gets a prize!
- Build a store display. Carry this throughout the store with mini displays in different sections.
- Add your personal review to the provided shelf-talkers.
- Include it in book shipments.
- Create a poster and include your digital store QR code for customers to easily scan and start shopping on their phone.
