The COMPETE act is heading towards the California Senate Appropriations Committee, so it's time to show up in support of it!
The Institute of Local Self Reliance and Economic Security California Action are inviting CALIBA members to attend a Press Conference at the Capital Building in Sacramento at 10am on August 11th. If you are interested and able to attend, please fill out this form so we can share information with you. They're hoping to get attendance numbers that show support in this bill. Your attendance is the most important thing! The CALIBA Political Advocacy Committee will be coordinating the attendees.
The COMPETE Act (AB 1776), closes a 119-year-old loophole in California law. Right now, state antitrust law can only act when two or more companies team up to rig a market. It does almost nothing, when ONE company is big enough to rig the market all by itself. AB 1776 fixes that, giving California real power to challenge a single dominant company that squeezes small sellers, entrepreneurs, and pop-up vendors like you.
Can’t attend in person, that’s ok, CALIBA’s Political Advocacy Committee will be working on organizing other ways you can show your support in the coming weeks. They’ll also be adding resources, like this poster, to this shared folder here. Questions, reach out to Hannah.
