2026 GOLDEN POPPY BOOK AWARDS - SUBMIT YOUR TITLES BY CA AUTHORS

CALIBA presents the 2026 Golden Poppy Awards in recognition of the most distinguished books written and illustrated by creators who have made California their home.

 

Committees for each category are made up of booksellers throughout the state tasked with developing a list of five finalists and one winner. Click here for more details.

1 - J. Crawford’s Books, in Sacramento, celebrated their 43rd anniversary with food, games, live music and a raffle. Happy birthday!

2 - Get Lit Books & Things, in Moreno Valley,  has found a new home. Contribute to their GoFundMe to help them reopen…every little bit helps!

3 - Bloom Wild Bookshop, in SoCal,  has a new book cart, so sweet!

4 - You Should Read, in San Diego, has a great activity for gift givers - a Blind Date Book Bar!

5 - Readers’ Books, in Sonoma, sandwich board has a cute message: “Roses are red, violets are blue, a book costs less than a dinner for two!”

Black History Month Displays & Recommendations

6 - Bookish Modesto featured a plethora of Black History Month book recommendations from their bookseller, Julia Washington.

7 - Small World Books, in Venice, showed off a book display of 100 years of Black History Month.

8 - Book Soup, in West Hollywood, showcased a collaborative display by their staff highlighting Black stories from the past, present and future.
