NEW MEMBER CORNER

The Love Potion Library logo

Welcome to CALIBA, The Love Potion Library!

Owner Name: Veena Patel

Location: San Francisco

Planned Opening: 2/14/2026

About Our New Member: The Love Potion Library is a bookstore, tea room, and wine bar which will be tucked away on Noe Street in The Castro. As a woman in the corporate world who grew up in a community-driven society, I found myself feeling lonely here in San Francisco. My hope for the store is that it will be a place where people can gather and connect over shared passions, and that my customers and I will find a sense of belonging from it.

BINC Year-End Campaign

BINC LAUNCHES YEAR-END CAMPAIGN

The need for emergency financial assistance within the book and comic community continues to grow and thanks to Penguin Random House, AdventureKEEN, and HarperCollins, the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation has launched its year-end campaign, with a $30,000 matching gift challenge, its largest ever.

Stand with Book and Comic Stores–has a goal of raising $200,000 in donations before Dec. 31, 2025, to ensure it can continue its commitment to never turn a bookseller in need away. All gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the power and impact of donations received, up to a total of $30,000.

Binc supporters will get an audiobook of their choice from Libro.fm. Give $100 and get one audiobook credit; give $500+ and get three audiobook credits. This offer is available until Dec. 31, 2025.

To donate and have your donation matched for greater impact, click here.

INTRODUCING A POP-UP TOOL KIT FROM CALIBA

We've been working on a Pop-Up Tool Kit doc to share as a resource for CALIBA member stores that are new to pop-up/mobile events (an Advisory Council suggestion). Do you have any additional tips you think we should include in this document for future members? Email Alecia.

Winter 2025 Catalog

TIPS FOR USING THE WINTER CATALOG

CALIBA creates the Holiday Catalog to help booksellers sell books and support the organization. With the help of the other regionals, we have compiled a list of ideas for making the most of your holiday catalog that you can find here.

Note: CALIBA has 1,000 catalog copies. If you run out of copies or missed the order deadline - email info@caliballiance.org.

Catalog tip from Flo at Linden Tree Books, in Los Altos:

We keep catalogs by the door, cash register, and add them to bags.

Have other ideas on how bookstores can use the Winter Catalog? Share it on Discord or email Alecia!
