NEW MEMBER CORNER

Celestial Books

Welcome to CALIBA, Celestial Books!

Owner Name: Chelsea Brown

Location: San Francisco

Planned opening: Spring 2026

About Our New Member: I started out as The Celestial Library, lending out my personal books to my neighbors from my driveway on the weekend. I then started acquiring and selling used books. The goal is open my brick-and-mortar bookstore this spring, and I'm excited to join and learn from this community!

Want to be featured in the Member Corner? Email Alecia with the following info: Store Name, Logo, Location, Date Established, and 2-3 sentences about you and your store. Note: must be a CALIBA Member

NEW FROM CALIBA

Certified Independent Bookstore

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD: INTRODUCING THE CERTIFIED INDIE CAMPAIGN

As we head into the busy holiday season, CALIBA wants to help you communicate with your community about what makes real indies unique. The Certified Indie campaign was made to provide clear, strong branding and easily-shared assets to member stores. The campaign is intended to make customers who choose to shop with us feel like they’ve done a good, cool thing (because they have!) by buying from a Certified Indie vs other stores that may lack this seal. We encourage you to use the available assets and linked information to begin a dialogue with your neighbors about how choosing a Certified Indie is choosing your community.
— CALIBA Board Members, Katerina Argyres and Vanessa Martini & CALIBA Staff

Winter 2025 Catalog

TIPS FOR USING THE WINTER CATALOG

CALIBA creates the Holiday Catalog to help booksellers sell books and support the organization. With the help of the other regionals, we have compiled a list of ideas for making the most of your holiday catalog that you can find here.

Note: CALIBA has a select number of copies of the catalog if you run out of copies or missed the order deadline. Email info@caliballiance.org.

Catalog tip from Claire at Wild Sisters Book Co., in Sacramento:

Bring them to a local independent living community and take orders!

Have other ideas on how bookstores can use the Winter Catalog? Share it on Discord or email Alecia!

PRH TWO-DAY HOLIDAY TRANSIT IS BACK

Penguin Random House's 14th annual two-day holiday transit program for independent bookstores began October 15, and will run through January 26, 2026.

The program, which supports independent bookstores during and beyond the holiday season, will continue to feature the "no minimums" requirement first introduced during the Covid pandemic.
